Even When Excluded in Config
Published on June 18, 2019 By Daiwa In OS Customization

I'm on Win10 Pro 1803.

The following issue has been present for some time, since at least WB version 10.7.4, perhaps 10.65.  A recent update to Reader DC has made the issue worse - the title bar had been missing but the menu bar & window controls had been visible making it usable if funny looking until the recent Adobe update.  Just decided to update to 10.8.0 to see if the issue would go away but it hasn't.  The issue occurs despite total exclusion (Do Not Skin) of AcroRd32.exe in the Per Application section (have had it excluded forever).

Here is the normal upper left corner of the window of Reader DC after uninstalling WB (looks same with WB installed but not running):

Here's the same section of the window once WB is running with AcroRd32.exe excluded:

The title bar and menu bar are missing.  Pressing the alt key will cause a functional menu bar to display.  The window controls are also missing since the title bar is gone.

Wondering if anyone else is seeing this and if the devs have had any reports of this.  Only other SD apps running are Start10, IP and CursorFX.

I have to use Reader DC daily so a fix would be much appreciated.  Skinning Reader DC is not essential so just having an effective exclusion would suffice.  Having to live without WB for the moment.

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having issues. This is what I get on my system. And I do not need to exclude it from WB.

Its running Acrobar Reader DC v 2019.012.20035.

Maybe it's a skin-specific issue.  I'll try some 'supplied' skins & follow up.

I do need to add.. I am on

1) Windows 10v1903. Not sure if it make any difference.

2) WB 10.8

Thank you,

Decided to try removing the exclusion first, since you indicated it's not excluded on your rig, and bingo - Reader DC window displays normally with WB running now.  Go figure.

Thanks for helping me sort it out, basj.

Hi, I am having the same problem and am wondering if you could help?

I have never excluded the Adobe32 exe file so I tried that and it did not work.

I should also point out that as well as the exact placement issues as described above by Daiwa I also cannot move the PDF window by click and drag.

I am runing WBlinds 10.84 and W10 Home 2004 and OS Build 19041.450.

When I unload Windowblinds the Adobe Reader DC reverts to normal settings.

Any assistance would be much appreciated!

Regards

Just get input from Dev, please disable "Sandbox Protection" that will help.

Hi Basj,

Thank you very much for the advice, it appears to have fixed the problem! I made the changes and restarted and so far so good!

I disabled the sandbox protection and the menu bar is visible again and the caption buttons also. I have left the AcroRd32.exe as an excluded app because I forgot about unexcluding it before making the changes and I was reluctant to alter it after your method worked.  The window can also be repositioned so everything seems to be normal again. Thank you very, very much!

By way of assisting anyone else I should mention that initially I thought it may be an update conflict so I switched on another computer with similar settings on WB and adobe DC and I noticed there that at start up the menu bar and caption buttons initially are normal before they then disappear. This seems consistent with your advice that something appears to be preventing then from loading correctly.

By way of a side issue I would like to say how impressed I am with Stardock programs particularly, Groupy, WindowBlinds, Start10  and Fences. My only criticism, which is really meant to be a complement, is that sometimes the aesthetics of Stardock programs do not match their functionality, performance and reliability.

Thank you also for the very prompt response!

Regards and thanks again!
