The Sequel
Published on June 12, 2005 By Daiwa In Politics
Someone recently posted two inflammatory rants, without any substantive underpinning, including in each a laundry list of insults and snide remarks directed at conservatives and "rightwingers." Nothing in either article invited any "debate" as they were nothing more than an individual ventilating his/her spleen by spouting opinions disparaging of others.

This someone then took offense when some, including me, replied in kind, blacklisting me and apparently a few others for alleged "personal attacks." Blacklisting is certainly his/her prerogative, but he/she had to take it further and publish a follow-up article bemoaning these so-called "personal attacks," in which he/she advocated more liberal use of blacklisting at JU, along with some general criticisms of the alleged political climate here.

This individual is extroardinarily thin-skinned and protests a bit too much. There was absolutely nothing "personal" in my comments or any others (that I saw) made in reply to the articles in question. Certainly, no personal offense was intended, and my comments were no more "offensive" than the articles themselves. It is disingenuous at best to publish a disparaging rant on a blog designed for replies and then get all bent out of shape when critical comments are made. Heat, kitchen... you know the rest.

He/she is welcome to comment here if desired, along with anyone else who may wish to share an opinion.

Cheers,
Daiwa

The problem with a "blacklist" is articles like this one. But all's fair in whatever this is.

Daiwa, when trying to be gender neutral in talking about a person, I always found the use of they and their (albeit not technically grammatically correct) to be better than he/she.

THanks for the heads up as well.

Common Sensei -

Had the individual not posted a self-righteous follow-up rag complaining about being so "mistreated," and had JU's admins not chosen to "feature" it on JU's front page, you wouldn't have heard from me. I've been blacklisted before and it's painless.

l_w -

I don't understand how offense could be taken, either, given the content of the original articles - if you're going to give, prepare to get and accept it.

Dr. Guy -

The whole gender neutrality thing is irrational, I'll give you that, but we live is such a PC world. Thank you/it.

Thanks to all & Cheers,

I've read both articles in which Calor claims to have been subjected to vile abuse and base personal attacks, and I see no examples of either, really.

I thought both were rather tame, as well. But I will leave Calor to his own judgement.

"dissension" and "personal attacks" are two entirely different things. But I digress...

I note that the "offending" replies have been deleted from those threads, making it somewhat difficult for others to judge for themselves.

C'est la vie.
