I updated SDC this morning on a Win2K rig that had an existing SDC version which was relatively old (but still 2.x). After the mandatory reboot, SDC crashes on launch, triggers a Dr. Watson message and closes.

Strangely enough, I later launced SDC on my XP rig at work and got the nice MS error report message and SDC closed. I had updated SDC on the XP rig 1 or 2 days ago and had been running SDC without any problems until the first launch today.

I had another Win2K rig with an older version of SDC on it, so I decided I'd try updating that one to see if the same crash would occur. After reboot, SDC opens normally without crashing on that rig, but it defaults to the News section each time it's launched, despite having the "remember settings" option selected and closing it while in Object Desktop view.

I'm a bit stumped - now have 2 rigs on which SDC won't launch. Newsgroup server appears to be down, too - I was going to uninstall SDC, download the latest downloadable installer & let it update again, but can't for now.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Cheers,
Daiwa

I would try reinstalling SDC, let it update, and see if that resolves the problem. Alternately, you could wait a bit since we'll probably be putting up an SDC update tomorrow.

Have the same problem. Told me a new version was available and I installed it now it crashes when I start SDC.

Its a known issue and will be fixed in the next build. It should be up within the next day or two.

Glad I'm not the only one having this problem. (well, not *glad* in the sense that the problem is happening in the first place).

It was crashing on me this morning with a server error, but now it's fine.

I haven't had that problem. However, DesktopX still has the startup problem.

Thanks, guys. I'll wait to update again until the new version is up. For now, I'll uninstall SDC & reinstall from the downloadable installer - I think I've got it stashed somewhere.

I'm getting it too, FWIW.

I thought it may be related to the Stardock news server being down also i.e a Stardock server-side problem. No?

Now it's crashing on me again, but this last time it did it when I went to check for new messages. Before it was crashing right when it first loaded. I can wait till tomorrow.

It seems to be a bad build. What worked for me was to go to Add/Remove programs, click on Stardock Central, and click "Change". It will start an unstall and give you the options "Automatic", "Custom", or "Repair". Choose repair and it will go back to the last build before the update. The next time you open Stardock Central, say NO to updating it and calmly wait a couple days for a bug free build. You might even watch the forums until somebody signals the "All Clear". Hope that works for you. I had the same crashing problem about 5 seconds after I opened Stardock Central after I updated and this has fixed it for now for me.

Well, just another "I've got the same problem" addition. Crashes on "Updating network and application information". Why aren't these releases checked out BEFORE sending to the public, paying customer???
